The Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures in the US
California - The Silicone State?
Recently, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) revealed new numbers that shed light onto the most popular plastic surgery trends in the US.
There were over 15.1 million cosmetic surgery procedures carried out last year, ranging from minimally invasive procedures to surgeries. The results revealed the total number of requests by state, analysing the demand for each type of procedure. According to the results, the most in-demand cosmetic surgery in the US last year was…
It’s perhaps no surprise that breast augmentation remained one of the most sought-after surgeries, with a one per cent increase reported from 2012-2013. What is surprising to some however, is that the highest number of requests for this procedure came from Utah, a largely Mormon state (even beating out California!).
Brazilian Butt Lift
Celebs like Beyonce and J.Lo have undoubtedly contributed to the rise in requests for butt lifts. In fact, from 2012-2013, there was a 58 per cent increase in enquiries for this procedure, with the highest demand reported in New York. With social media being flooded with “belfies” on a daily basis, the popularity of this procedure isn’t likely to dissipate any time soon!
Again, most commonly requested in Georgia, the adominoplasty remained a sought after procedure throughout 2013. The procedure removes excess skin and fat, making it a popular procedure among new mothers. There was a 5 per cent increase in the number of tummy tucks carried out between 2012-2013, bringing the total number of procedures to 111,986.
There were 90,006 breast lifts performed last year, the highest number of which taking place in Texas. A mastopexy is a common choice for women looking to restore the placement of their breasts as opposed to size, and is often used to combat sagging that can occur as a result of breastfeeding.
Requests for breast reduction in women remained fairly consistent year-over-year, but statistics show an 11 per cent increase in the demand from men. The fact that breast reduction is the only elective cosmetic surgery to be covered by insurance providers has surely helped to keep it on the top ten list of procedures, with the highest demand coming from residents in South Dakota.
The demand for eyelid surgery grew six per cent from 2012, with the highest demand seen in California. Clinically termed a Blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery can be used for either corrective or aesthetic purposes, and in total over 215,000 procedures were carried out last year in the US.
A whopping 62 per cent of respondents said they would undergo a “mommy makeover” if money were no object. With countless celebs papped looking prim and perfect a mere few weeks post-birth, the number of women opting for this package – which combines procedures to target fat removal and breast augmentation – is on the rise.
Colloquially known as a “nose job”, rhinoplasties remain among the top ten procedures in spite of their popularity dwindling. There has actually been a reported nine per cent decrease in demand for nose jobs, but in terms of the requests that were made in 2013, the highest number came from the state of California.
California also saw the highest demand for Botox, a minimally-invasive procedure that fills crows feet and wrinkles to restore a youthful look. There were over 6.1 million procedures carried out in 2013, with no doubt a substantial percentage of those taking place among the Hollywood Hills.
New Yorkers topped the list of people in search of Liposuction, with a little under 200,000 procedures carried out last year. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Lipo is the second most popular form of cosmetic surgery in the US, behind breast augmentation.
